One Daily Video

This is a personal project used to keep track of daily videos and to make it easier to finish "video-editing" while on the run, since most of them are just simple trimming.

Here are some external projects that were really helpful in creating the app:

As for questions, you are welcome to ask for support/feature requests, or send me videos that you created with the app:

FAQ

Why is there no sound?

The sound is intentionally cut out to make it easier to insert a soundtrack. Also, since I developed the app for mainly my personal use and I use Hyperlapse for most videos, there is no sound anyway. It was planned to have support for inserting a soundtrack file in the app for the first version, but there were some technical problems.

The technical problems are in the end also the reason why there is no option to leave the sound in the videos, so all clips are handled as video only.

Can I apply filter X on the video? (e.g. colour change, cropping, ...)

The app supports trimming and speed-change only, there is no further image-manipulation like a colour filter or cropping, zooming, distorting of any kind. If you want to have a clip edited, you can do that in another app and import the clip via camera roll, or use the Dropbox synchronisation feature to edit clips on a desktop machine with "professional" video editing tools.

In the end this app is just meant as an utility to make my own life easier, it is not meant to be a complete solution.

Why is the final video not synced with Dropbox?

The final video is exported to camera roll only. From there you can move it to anywhere you want. Honestly it is not synced via Dropbox because files over 150 MB have to be handled differently, which I did not yet come to do.

Also, the Dropbox feature should be seen as backup, or sharing of the workspace between different devices. With the daily videos and the project files, there is everything necessary in the Dropbox to render a video from scratch, i.e. to achieve a complete backup.

I deleted a file from Dropbox, but it gets uploaded by the app on syncing

Currently deletions from Dropbox are not synced with the app, so the app just checks if a file exists in Dropbox, and uploads it if it doesn't. If it is a daily video, you should delete it from both Dropbox AND the app to prevent uploading. If not, you can perform a sync to Dropbox, delete the project from the app, and then download it from Dropbox again.

Maybe for future versions there might be a primitive file-browser to perform deletions directly in the app. Also a more elaborate syncing might be neat.

I deleted a video in the app, but it gets downloaded from Dropbox

See the prior section, there is currently no synching of "deleted" file events. The easiest solution would be to delete the daily video from both the app and Dropbox.

Videos that I put in Dropbox multiply after syncing

As for daily videos, to make it easier to sort and swap the priority of videos, they get first sorted by name and then renamed to MONTH-DAY-1st.mp4, ..-2nd.mp4, ..-3rd.mp4 and so on. If the video-file you put in Dropbox is named differently, if will then be renamed - and because it is renamed, it will uploaded with the new name, as well as downloaded again. Which in turn will produce a new video, that gets uploaded and downloaded and so forth.

To prevent that behaviour, it is recommended to conform to the naming convention. Maybe in future there might be a smart detection of videos via file-checksum, but for now this does not appear to be a catastrophic problem to be worth the effort.

The same day appears multiple times in the final video

A video might appear again or even multiple times in the after credit clips, due to to renaming. See the last section about naming of videos.

Some unanswered question

While the probability is infinitesimal, I shall allow it to have such a question. You can write to luke(dot)schwoebel[ät]gmail{dot}com with your inquiry. Please mind that I might not answer with a delay less than a quarter hour ;)
